teacher or listener

A quick lesson to think and learn. Especially for this mommy! The relationship between a parent and a child changes with each age. In the younger years, it is more parents doing/teaching and the children watching. However, this slowly changes and the parent then needs to learn to watch and allow the child to do and teach. Eventually, a parent can only watch and must let the child do alone. This finally occurs when the child is in their teens. But it doesn't happen over night. Even at my children's ages, with the oldest 5 1/2, I have to sit back and let them do, when I am still mainly the teacher. This is also true in all walks of life, including spirituality. Where are you on that path? Either as a parent or as a spiritual walker?

On your spiritual path you have many you can learn from. Be it another spiritual leader who is teaching and aiding you along on your path. Or is it the call from a deity? Just as a parent, they show you what they can in the beginning, and slowly back off and watch you along your path. Just as you can sense your parents presence, you can sense the deities presence. Sometimes they will do something to teach you a lesson. Just as we watch the circle of life, it teaches us that everything is important and every aspect of our life is as well. From birth to death, they hold importance in the ever continuing circle of life. 

As you walk your path. Do you take time to listen? To see if there is a lesson to be taught? Do you sense that someone is there watching you, waiting to see what you will do? Rarely are we ever really alone, even if we feel that we are. It just is those times that we are being allowed a chance to show what we will do with a lesson that was already taught. So next time things happen, take a moment see if there is a lesson to be learned or if it one you have learned before and can use in this time and place.

Remember to always take time to listen! Sometimes that is the hardest and most important lesson we are taught. Just as a toddler has to learn to allow mom and dad to help them, when they reach the age of "I can do everything." There are still so much they are not quick ready for, so they need to still take time to listen and watch. We as adults and walkers on our spiritual path, need to take time to stop, listen and see what there is left to learn.
